Honoring the Legacy of Tyson W. McCormick

Legacy & Adventure

Tyson believed in the trans-formative power of global experiences and cultural understanding. This endowment supports students at Academic Magnet High School (AMHS) by providing financial assistance for participation in school-sponsored international trips.

    Purpose

    To reduce financial barriers for students seeking to participate in educational travel abroad, helping them grow through exposure to new cultures, languages, and global perspectives.

    Eligibility

    • Current or rising Sophomore or Junior student at Academic Magnet High School (AMHS) who has never traveled outside the continental United States
    • Accepted or approved to participate in a school-sponsored international trip
    • Good academic and behavioral standing
    • Willingness to share a brief reflection after the trip

    Award Distribution

    • Up to $1,000 per student
    • Multiple awards may be granted annually 

    Application & Deadline Requirements

    Applications will be reviewed and final selections made by the School Principal, Guidance Director, and Science Department Head. Beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year, applicants must submit their interest along with the requirements established by school administration, which includes the following:


    • Completed application form
    • 300-word essay: "Why travel is important to me."
    • Parent/guardian permission form
    • Proof of acceptance to the school-sponsored trip

    This endowment will be managed by the Academic Magnet Foundation until it reaches a balance of $25,000.  It will then be held in perpetuity by the Coastal Community Foundation (CCF).
